Ten Must-Haves for Every Fashionista's Closet

Fashion & StylePosted by Gaetana Tuesday, January 30 2007 10:23AM

*Black Suit: Consisting either of a matching black skirt or black pants, made of rayon material.

*White Cotton Dress Shirt: This is a important closet staple, that can be dressed up or down depending on the occassion.

* The Perfect Pair of Jeans: A great fitting pair of jeans should be in every closet; two would be even better. You don't have to spend a lot of money on them, as long as they fit your body type and have enough stretch. You'll be good to go.

* Pair of Black Pumps: A pair of 1 to 2 inch black pumps can take you from the office to happy-hour.

* Black Dress: Another closet must-have, the dress should be made of a sturdy but lightweight cotton/rayon blend.

*T-Shirt: Black, white, and a color. Great for the layered efftect or wore alone, you can get many wears out of them. Old Navy t-shirt's are great, but make sure they are 1-2% spandex/lycra content which helps keep the shape of the t-shirt.

*Tote Handbag: Great for carrying everything you'll need to take with you to the office during the week and as a shopping bag on the weekends when shopping in the mall.

*Trench Coat/All-Weather Coat: Can be wore as a coat or as a dress. Look for a version with a removable lining so you'll get more usage.

*Khaki: Adds diversity to any outfit.

Six Items That Are Always Worth It...

Fashion & StylePosted by Gaetana Thursday, January 25 2007 09:55AM

*The Little Black Dress: This is a must-have item, which can be worn with a jacket, jewelry, or even with stocking to any number of events. Living in New York, a little black dress is essential. I can tell you that a little black dress is a key item that will always come in handy at the last minute. It personally has saved my butt a number of times. Plus, it's a neutral color so it can be worn a number of times and no on can tell it's the same one.

*The Neutral-Colored, 2-inch Heel: When it comes to footwear, black is a bad choice. It's always best to match your skin tone and the heel should be about 2-inches high. A shoe like that is versatile and works really well with other colors such as brown, red and even black. I've just come to realize that a lot of celebrities use this secret all the time.

*The Right Bra: Now this is a key item for any woman, a good bra is essential for any outfit. A good bra will make you look at your best and you'll feel your best in it. I've heard it's the easiest way to look like you've lost five pounds, I personally don't know if it's true or not.

A Colorful Coat: Avoid bulky and black, it could really be any color as long as it keeps you warm on a cold winter's day.

* A Practical Bag: Pick a bag that can hold alot, colorful and can be worn with a lot of outfits. I can personally tell you since I'm a bag person, that you don't have to spend a lot. There are plenty of bags that you can find for a good price but please stay away from Canal Street. That's the last place you want to go for a bag. That's a no-no.

Medium Signature Canvas Tote (Available at the Gap $44.50)

* Sunscreen: It's as necessary as applying lotion to your body to keeping it moisturized. Even on a day when it seems the sun it's that strong out, its a minimum cosmetic requirement. Without out sunscreen you'll look like a dryout prune.

Should You Buy It?

Fashion & StylePosted by Gaetana Thursday, January 25 2007 09:17AM

I found this equation that should help a lot of women out when they can't decide if they should buy something or not.The equation is very simple and you just take the cost of the garment and divide that by the number of times you wear that garment. That equals how much it's really worth.

Blog Image

Let's say a jacket cost $150 but if you think you'll wear it twice a week during the fall and winter, that's about 60 times-which is $2.50 per wear.

It would basically pay itself off in the long run since your getting so many wears out of that one jacket. Sometimes it worth it to splurge on a item if your going to be wearing it alot. I hope this helps a lot you out there that be having that undecided look on your faces when deciding to buy a item or not.

CFDA Releases Guidelines

Fashion & StylePosted by Gaetana Wednesday, January 17 2007 01:08PM

Blog ImageThe Council of Fashion Designers have finally released the awaited guidlines in response to calls for a worldwide ban on skinny models.

According to the CFDA's recommendations models must be at least 16 years old to appear on the runway and 18 for catalogue work. Also educating the industry concerning eating disorders and a requirement for models identified with symptoms of weight problems to receive professional help. Additionally, more healthy foods should be available at fashion events.

I personally prefer models that aren't overly skinny, a little fat isn't bad. More healthy foods should be served compare to tons of alcohol. Overall, the guidelines are a good thing. What do you think???
