What We're READING: Too Hard to Forget

Getting PersonalPosted by Gaetana Tuesday, May 30 2017 11:53AM
I was recently in a reading slump and didn't pick up a book or my Kindle for a month but I think it's officially over. I was recently sent Too Hard to Forget by Tessa Baily by the publisher Hachette. I give it 5 out of 5 stars.smileysmileysmileysmileysmiley
The book features our two main characters Peggy who when they first meet is a college senior/popular cheerleader and Elliot aka. The Kingmaker. Who is the colleges legendary football coach who makes player that go to the NFL. Elliot first sees Peggy during a difficult time of his life when he wife dies suddenly and he's left to raise his daughter alone. He blames himself because he chose his job/football over his family. Even though they both know a relationship of any kind is forbidden they still pursue one another. Which results in a year long secret relationship where Elliot forces Peggy to leave despite her wanting to stay after graduation. Their relationship was a fast pace, sex driven and pure lust which grew into love despite them both trying to fight it.

Speed forward to 3 years later. Peggy finally comes back to the college for alumni week where she wants to get back at Elliot for the way she has been the last 3 years since leaving. Which result in 4 failed relationships/engagements. She keeps her past engagement rings on a necklace that she never takes off. During those 3 years Elliot has thrown himself into football and pushed everyone away including his daughter with his cold and hard exterior. When he hears and then sees Peggy after so long it's like life has been given back to him. Elliot is desperate to get Peggy back at all cost while Peggy wants to him to fall for her and then she walk away. Nevertheless, Peggy plan fails. Elliot manages to lift the burden that he put on her and she does the same for him. Elliot then goes on the mission to win Peggy over and for her to stay.Just when she thought Elliot wasn't going to show for the alumni banquet he does and give a speech that Peggy wasn't even expecting. One that won her over literally. She finally got the right proposal.

This book is all about fate. The author did an amazing job of Elliot's self loathing, religion and guilt. Which result in Peggy having a particular kink. Both character have a great depth to them. I normally hate flashbacks to the past but the author did these so well that I enjoyed going back 3 years and learning their story behind it all. In the end, I was cheering for Elliot and Peggy and was overjoyed when everything worked out.

It's the third book in the series and I look forward to reading the rest. I highly recommend this book and author.
