When You Can't Find What You Want. Make it Yourself

Getting PersonalPosted by Gaetana Sunday, July 05 2015 09:22AM
I confess I'm planner addicted and finding the right planner in the size I wanted was mission and a half. So when I finally narrowed it down to the traveler's journal in wide or extra wide I was happy. But another issue, the color. I've been obsessed with this mint green or seafoam green. So when no one had the size or even the color I wanted I decided to make one myself. I found tutorials on how I can accomplish it and bought the supplies I need.

Here's a peek at my finished planner. Isn't she pretty.
So for this I needed the following:
-elastic cord 1-2 mm 2 yards (color of your choice)
-scrapbooking paper (12x12 square)
-scissors (fabric and paper scissors)
-pattern paper (not necessary but me for yes)
-a pen
-stick pens
-iron-on adhesive
-leather hole punch

I then took my pattern paper and made a 12x12 square to cut out my leather and adhesive.I then ironed on the adhesive to the leather.
I then put another layer of the adhesive on top with the scrapbook paper on top of that. Facing up.
So now I have one piece of fabric which is two sided.
I then trimmed off the excess.
I know I wanted an wide or extra wide. So I found the measurement of it closed and doubled it both ways. Then cut.
I then rounded the corner using the cap to a glue stick and cut. From there it was time to mark the holes for the elastic cord to do through.I first folded it in half to find the middle. I then measured and marked an 1/2 inch from each end. Then one inch then mark the middle.

From there I used my leather hole punch (not shown) to punch the holes You should have 5 holes to be exact. I then cute I yard of elastic and then a second at 19 inches ( you'll need that if you want to add a second set of notebooks).
This next step I didn't photograph because I wanted to get it right the first time. You take the elastic in half and make sure it's even. That looped area and put it thru the center hole of your planner. From the inside to the outside. Take that loop and bring it around your planner to width of the book. Now you have the length/piece that will keep your planner closed. Unclasp it. Open it back up. Take the ends of the elastic and put it through the next holes on each side. Then thread each elastic through the remaining holes. Grab a notebook to measure the length of elastic you will need. Tie a knot and then a double knot and cute the excess.

Then my planner was completed.
Now I'm planner happy. My planner has everything I need including storage with folders I made, available in my Etsy Shop. Paper clips were made by myself and the post-its are from Target.
