The struggle is real some times when it comes to stay creative especially when your field of work is to be creative and produce creative items. Sometimes you can feel overwhelmed to produce, produce, produce. Here's some of the things I do to keep my creative juices flowing.
Back in college when I was going to school at night and worked during the day I was always creative at night. Now that I work from home and I tend to work during the day time hours I'm creative during the day. First figure out the time period when you feel the most creative. For some it's during the day time. For others it's during the night.
Next you need to find your medium to express your creativeness. Whether it's paper, pencil, pen, an instrument, clay and etc. Mine happens to be drawing, jewelry making and sewing. When I feel creative I have to do it then which results me making my pieces in batches. Just keep creating until you can't create any more. When you feel like that's it. Stop.
Music is key to helping me stay creative. I love playing upbeat music like soca, dancehall or the latest hip hop. The more upbeat the better. Spotify your favorite artist and turn up the volume and create.
Get rid of all distractions. Tell everyone to leave you alone from a certain time period, close the door and let your creativity flow. I always get more work done period when no one is home. When everyone is home I just can't concentrate because I know every 5 minutes someone is going to say my name and want me for something.
One last tip to how I stay creative is to make the space where you create inspirational. Paint the walls a bright and cheerful color. Create an inspiration board of all your favorite things on a cork board and put it up on the wall. Have all your mediums out on your desk in cool cups so that they're easy to reach. If your space isn't creative then you won't be creative. It's that simple.
I hope this helps you stay creative. Feel free to tell me how you stay creative. I would love to know.

For January I really had to rack my mind and think what did I love for January. What was I using a lot. Gradually, one by one I finally figure out what my must haves for January were. I really don't know how people do this every month. I barely came up with 3. Well some is better than none.
It's really a mix of things when you look at it.
With my younger sister being a makeup artist I always get random bits of makeup. She recently gave me a new foundation because with it being winter in NY and I'm not getting any sun I'm back to my original skin tone. So for the entire month of January I've been wearing Makeup Forever Mat Velet+ foundation
in color #77. With me having oily skin this foundation is perfect. Oil-free and is just like the bottle says matte. It's not a matte that makes you look dead but a matte that makes your skin look like your skin. I put my makeup on roughly around 5:45am and don't take it off until around 4-5pm. That's a good length of time. Normally around 3-ish I see a bit of oil in my t-zone but it's a dewy oily not a oil slick mess like with other foundations. I highly recommend this foundation if you have oily skin and want a matte finish foundation that last a good amount of time before you have to blot your skin. I give it an A and when I finish this bottle which will be any time now. I'll definitely buy a new bottle. You can find it at Sephora
Now this next item(s) I have been using is planner related. If you follow me on Instagram then you know I'm into planner stuff. I try not to post too much but enough to show it's a interest. Anyway, my most recent spreads I've been using full weekly kits from one particular creator. Jessica Brown or MyPlannerEnvy
. First off all her stickers are printables and they're free on her blog. I found her on Pinterest which lead me to her blog. She not only has sticker samplers but functional stickers of all kinds for all types of planners. I literally spent one entire day and two packs of labels printing her stickers. What I love about her stickers is they're different especially her sticker samplers. All the big shops are doing the same thing which results in everyone having similar layouts. B-o-r-i-n-g. If you're new to the planner world this is a good way to get your feet wet without spending a ton of money. I don't have a Silhouette so I had cut these with an x-acto knife. It's takes a bit longer but well worth the effort.Check her blog
out you won't be disappointed and definitely join her Facebook group
.She's always adding new stickers to her blog.
First lets discuss how beautiful this cover is. It's actually more beautiful in person. It's The Girl in the Garden by Melanie Wallace. I was sent an advance copy by the publisher for a review in December but finally got around to reading it in January. Which took all of January because I wasn't in a real reading mood but I knew I had to read it. When I saw this cover on Bookstr
I knew I had to put in a request for the book. Here's my short but sweet review I left on Bookstr."Firstly this book's cover is beautiful. The book was well written and I
love how all the character were intertwined together. You got to know
each characters back story that lead them to the current date in the
book. What lead to their circumstances and isolation. The book might
start with June but ends with Iris's sad end. Overall, a great book and
story. I highly recommend this book and the story is as beautiful as
I might of had only 3 items for this month but lord did I give you my opinion on them. It's no telling what I'll love for February. You'll just have to stay tuned. What we're you loving for January? I'll love to know.

Now I know you've heard of your daily wardrobe and the key pieces every woman should own. From there the experts say you can add pieces gradually to expand your core wardrobe. The same idea applies to your jewelry wardrobe.
Being a jewelry lover myself my collection wasn't always what it is today. I had only one or two key pieces and over time (years) it has expanded to what I have today. So let me go into the staples you need to own to build your jewelry wardrobe and my suggestions on what to purchase.
It starts with 7-8 pieces and from there you build out.Simple studs
(nothing overly boring)I was never a stud wearer until recent years but they have become a staple in my wardrobe. They can sometimes be simple or overly bold depending on the pair. If you don't like dangly earrings then studs are your best friend. If you work in a pretty conservative office then studs are the only way to go but they don't have to be boring.
Timeless Faux Druzy Stud earrings
are sparkly and a bolder touch but can't go with any and everything in your wardrobe. Crystal Stripe Lucite Stud earrings
are more understated but the touch of gold puts some dimension and texture to them.Yellow Color Burst India Glass earrings
are for the times you want to add a bit of color and fun without being too out there.Dainty necklaces of different lengths and/or thickness
Just like before, if your just starting out wearing jewelry it's best to start dainty and work your way up to a statement necklace. Dainty necklaces are perfect for laying which is pretty popular. Why wear one when you can wear several, right.
Circles Gold Plated Lariat necklace
is a lariat necklace and can be worn several different ways. I suggest having at least one in your wardrobe.Besides being perfect for laying you can wear inside a shirt for a subtle touch or outside for elongated look. Lariats can always we worn to your back if you have a backless shirt or dress on.Gold Plated Heart Initial necklace
is perfect for laying and is subtle necklace that can just peek through a button down shirt or worn over a turtleneck. Worn with a lariat for layering makes the perfect duo.Mixed Agate Catseye necklace
is a bar necklace which adds a bit dimension the other two styles lack. Another necklace perfect for laying either with a choker style necklace or a longer necklace. Two rings of different widths
(optional)Not everyone is a fan of rings like myself but if you are then adding two rings to your wardrobe is a must. It's like adding the bow to a present.
Stunning Set Gold Ring Set
) is what are popular right now. They are dainty and can be worn like a traditional ring or worn the trendy way a knuckle ring. It's a two for one in my book.Flair to Spare Gold Rhinestone Ring
) is a more chunkier ring with more dimension the other. If you're a lover of rings then you'll love this type of ring.
I got my first "nice" watch as a h.s. graduation gift from the company I was working for at the time. If any piece of jewelry you start with first I highly suggest a watch. You can't tell time without it. I know it's the technological age and you're saying who wears a watch nowadays. We'll professionals does and what happens if your phone dies on the way to meet a client. You'll be glad you had your watch one. FYI,Target have some really cute ones and the prices are really affordable.
Women's Mossimo® Crystal Accent Analog Watch with Decorative Dials - Rose Gold - Mossimo™
)Women's Strap Watch with Baguette Stone Glitz Dial - Grey/Rose Gold - Mossimo™
Two delicate bracelets of different width
Just like necklaces, bracelets are perfect for layering but you can wear them alone. I personally prefer wearing two or three at one time.
Bless Rose Gold Tone Chain bracelet
is perfect for wearing alone and our personal favorite for layering. It's still dainty despite the cross pendant and is very popular motif.Rose Bow Glass Pearl Stretch bracelet
is a beaded stretch option if you're not a fan of chain bracelets. Still dainty and feminine with a couple of adorable bow charms dangling. Another great option for layering. Two chunky bracelets
(optional)If you're into more chunky bracelet which add more dimension and sometime flair then you'll enjoy adding this option to your jewelry wardrobe. Great for layering or wear alone. Especially in fall and winter, they can be worn over the cuff of long sleeve shirts and sweaters.
Tribal King Bone and Glass bracelet
is the perfect example of a chunky bracelet.Featuring a mixture of texture and can be worn alone or with another for layering.Unstoppable Glass Wood Tassel bracelet
is a bracelet that has a bit of everything. Texture, chunky, and a mix of elements. Another great piece to wear alone and look fabulous layered with other bracelets.
Despite which staples you decide to choose to build your jewelry wardrobe forget the rules and choose what fits you and your style. If you're not comfortable with it then it's pointless in wearing or even purchasing it.

Behind Satin DollPosted by Gaetana Tuesday, January 24 2017 09:28AM
Every blog has a meaning behind it's name. I've been blogging since 2007 and when my sister approached me after creating my website that I needed a blog. I jumped on it. I was limited with the themes available and came up with a name quick fast. I wanted something that had my business name but felt like a place you come every other day. Where you grab a cup of your favorite hot beverage and relaxed.
Some place where you came for the latest in news, trends, recipes, giveaways, sales, events and etc. At least I hope that's what I created. A cafe of sorts hence the name "Satin Doll Cafe".
How do you feel about our blog, blog name and topics? What about you like to see more of? Let us know.

As we get older certain possessions hold special significance over others. As I go through my jewelry 2-3 pieces hold that honor from two very important people in my life.
I literally had to search through my jewelry to find them but they were safe and sound in their respective storage bags. One is a love knots necklace given to me by my godmother when I believe was in my late teens. The other was a gift from my parents on my 16th birthday. The 3rd piece that I would have loved to feature was from my late grandmother (my father's mother). A silver plated cross that was given to me when I was 9 years old.
Let's go into the story behind each piece.
As I said before this piece was given to me as either a birthday gift or Christmas present from my godmother in my late teens if I remember correctly. It's silver plated and is in desperate need of a good cleaning but anyway. It's a love knots necklace. In all honestly when I received it I had no clue what the design was but was told shortly after receiving it that the knots meant and the significance of it. The person said, " Someone love you a lot". I said why. They answered back with , "You're wearing a love knots necklace." I said oh.
We'll the official definition of a love knot is a very popular style of jewelry for expressing your love . On a deeper level representing endless love that has no beginning or end. I'm truly honored that my godmother gave me this piece since I'm her "daughter" since she has only sons.
This piece with my initial was given to me on my 16th birthday by my parents. It was so cute how I received it. I had a Tweety bird cake since I loved it so much and they wrapped the necklace around Tweety. I think I was more excited by the cake first then the necklace. At 16 I could officially have a boyfriend, stay out a lil' later. This piece was my beloved piece until my early twenties.
This piece held so much significance to me that I created a whole collection based on this one piece as inspiration. My Initial collection in Spring of 2014, which is still available on my website. You never know when something from your past will inspire you in the present.
Both of pieces were given to me from two important part of my groups in my life that have help guide through adulthood. They also represent my youth. I can remember so many important times when I was wearing either. Just wow!
What piece(s) hold special significance to you?
